Music from the Abbey

Music from the Abbey

A suite of ten movements composed by

David Cowell

Performed by students from 8 Vale of Evesham schools

Commissioned by Evesham Abbey Trust this Premier Performance brings alive the vigour and mystery of the Abbey over its 1300-year history.

The Abbey was set upon the site of Eof the swineherd’s vision of the Virgin, establishing the origin and heart of the town.

Bishop Egwin established the church and became the first Abbot, Lady Godiva endowed the Abbey and ended her days there, Simon de Montfort died in pursuit of a Parliament of the People and was buried there, and Henry VIII ensured its destruction. For a thousand years Evesham Abbey was the beating heart of Evesham.

Students from 8 Worcestershire schools, will join to celebrate, as a large ensemble orchestra, the thread and weave of our musical tribute to the Abbey’s history.
